A number of top Mpumalanga runners will invade White River on Saturday for the second edition of the Sudwala Caves Marathon.
The race is a gruelling 21km of uphills and downhills. It is unique in that the route goes through a cave.
Runners have to go through the "screaming monster", which is an enormous rock formation in the cave before they could reach the finish line.
Jurgen Halbich, race organiser, said at least 180 runners have confirmed their participation.
"The top athletes from the province, like Josiah Thugwane, Sipho Ngomane, Enos Matalane and Enos Makamu have confirmed their participation," he said.
"We will have Alen Robb of Rocky Road Runners, who has ran the Comrades Marathon 34 years in succession, running as a guest athlete in this year's event," said Halbich.
Last year Matalane won the men's race in a time of 1hr:14min:19sec while Daleen Botha of Nelspruit Marathon Club won the women's section in 1:47:52.
Halbich said the race, which is expected to attract 200 people, will start at 7am at Sudwala Caves.
