The family of the late Super Shongwe, founder and former player of Pretoria Callies Football Club and the Callies Social Club, will launch the inaugural Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity golf day on May 25.

The family of the late Super Shongwe, founder and former player of Pretoria Callies Football Club and the Callies Social Club, will launch the inaugural Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity golf day on May 25.

The event is in memory of Shongwe, who was also a golf player, and aims to raise funds for local charities. It will be held at the Zwartkop Country Club in Centurion.

Family spokesman Ndhlabole Shongwe said: "It is 31 years since our father passed on and as a family we considered that it would be a fitting tribute to his memory to raise funds for charity, as he spent most of his life doing the same. The family is proud to have partnered with the Callies Social Golf Club, as he too was a keen golfer and sports personality."

Shongwe was at the helm of Callies when they boasted greats like Lucas "Masterpieces" Moripe, Nkosi Patrick Molala, Isaac Shigo and George Kgobe. - Linda Moreotsene
