The South African film industry will make its voice heard at the Cannes Film Festival taking place in France.

About 10 SA delegates will attend the 61st festival, which starts today and ends on May 24.

The delegates are from the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), the Department of Arts and Culture, Cape Film Commission, Gauteng Film Commission, Department of Trade and Industry and South Africa's leading producers.

Jackie Motsepe, the NFVF's head of marketing and public affairs, said the South African highlight at this year's Cannes Festival would be the NFVF conference themed "South Africa, your co-production partner of choice".

"The conference will be held on May 21 at the Hotel Martinez in celebration of South Africa's 11 years at the Cannes Film Festival.

" The pavilion is an office dedicated to all South Africans attending the festival. The DTI film and television production scheme and other information that market the country will be disseminated at the pavilion."

South Africa will have a representation at the Producers' Network, which was co-founded by the NFVF and officially launched in 2004. The network is a programme dedicated to bringing together producers in Cannes to encourage opportunities for international co-production and to contribute actively to the film industry.

This year South Africa's DJ Black Coffee will be the South African entertainer at the event.
