The SABC has denied our report that public commercial head Pearl Luthuli is to replace Charlotte Mampane as chief operating officer.

Mandi Titi, responsible for strategic projects in Luthuli's department, said the report that said Luthuli was in the running for the job of chief operations officer at the SABC was "factually inaccurate and blatantly malicious".

He quoted Luthuli as saying: "I am definitely not in the running nor has anybody approached or head-hunted me for the position."

He said the second allegation that Luthuli also faced an internal forensic investigation about the running and awarding of the Metro FM Music Awards was also "inaccurate and malicious".

He said it was baseless and nonexistent.

Sources had told Sowetan that SABC board chairman Khanyisile Mkhonza and her deputy, Christine Qunta, "were pushing" for the appointment of Luthuli, who has said she's "not in the running" for the position.
