Soweto-born Lawrence Mahatlane is among 11 cricket coaches who obtained Bakers Level 4 coaching certificates at the weekend.

Mahatlane, coach of the Gauteng Strikers amateur side, was the only one from club level who attended the five-day course at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.

Other coaches were either from the amateur provincial teams, professional franchises, South Africa U-19s, Emerging SA squad or the national academy.

All of them completed the first part of the national certificate, which dealt with aspects and skills other than the technical or tactical side of the game. The second part of the course will be held from September 15 to 19. It will mainly concentrate on the more cricketing aspects at senior professional level.

Former St Martins cricket team skipper Mahatlane said he felt awfully excited after receiving a coaching certificate.

"Patience has helped me to such achievements in my cricket career. I hope to do well at the next level later this year,'' said Mahatlane, who has now moved to Kew in Johannesburg.

Born and bred in Rockville, Mahatlane once coached Soweto Cricket Club, Isaacson Primary School and clubs .

Cricket South Africa's manager for coaching Anton Ferreira said the holders of this certificate will be able to coachat the highest level.
