"The girls stripped me naked and a good friend of mine joined in and slapped and kicked me."

This is what a visibly shaken Simphiwe Ncoguthu, pictured, a former pupil at Mama Jackey Maarohanye's Ithuteng Trust School, told the Protea magistrates' court yesterday.

He was giving evidence in the case in which Simon "Dede" Setlaba is charged with kidnaping and assaulting him in February 2006.

Ncoguthu said Setlaba, 22, and a group of Ithuteng pupils, kidnapped him in the street outside his home and assaulted him on the school's premises in Klipspruit, Soweto.

Ncoguthu, 24, was kidnapped and assaulted by pupils and paraded in the street naked by schoolgirls.

"He and other pupils slapped and kicked me and accused me of knowing too much about the school," Ncoguthu told magistrate Robert Buttom yesterday.

He said he was hospitalised and had suffered bruises all over his body as a result of the assault led by Ronnie "Papa Action" Nyakale.

During the assault and kidnapping trial of Maarohanye, Nyakale and Mpho Makhate, Ncoguthu mentioned that Setlaba was one of the people who assaulted him.

"I have known him since 2003 and we were on good terms," Ncoguthu said. "I could not believe it when he joined in the assault."

Setlaba has pleaded not guilty to the kidnapping and assault charges he is facing.

His lawyer, Ike Motloung, said Setlaba was not in Gauteng on the day Ncoguthu was assaulted.

Setlaba is out on R2000 bail.

The trial was postponed to next month when two police officers will take the stand as witnesses.
