Disabled to showcase their work
The successes achieved by disabled people in the eThekwini area will be showcased at a two-day exhibition in Durban next month.
The Disability Exhibition - hosted by the eThekwini municipality's community participation and action support unit - will take place on June 3 and 4 at the International Convention Centre (ICC).
The exhibition stems from a workshop held with people with disabilities last month at which they identified their needs.
"The event will give a platform to people with disabilities to exhibit their work and identify business opportunities," said Ntokozo Chonco, head of community participation and action support unit.
He said other benefits of the exhibition would include:
lGiving the government and private sector an opportunity to share information on services they provide for people with disabilities;
lEnhancing partnerships with disabled people and other role players;
lRaising awareness of the challenges faced by the disabled; and
lIdentifying business opportunities and establishing markets for exhibitors with disabilities.
The exhibition is expected to attract more than 1000 visitors and more than 70 exhibitors from various business sectors.
