The Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates on Saturday might have been played over 600km away from Seshego, but the match created a great deal of interest among soccer enthusiasts in Limpopo.
The derby is not called "The Mother of Mzansi Derbies" for nothing and many who watched it at the stadium and on their television sets on the day would attest to this.
Gerald "Mgababa" Raphahlela, the former Bucs defender, agrees that it was nail-biting stuff.
I watched this thriller with him and other Pirates and Amakhosi supporters at Hezekiel "Shakes" Papo's place in Zone 1, Seshego, and Raphahlela and other Pirates supporters were ridiculed by Chiefs' supporters after the match.
Octovious Baloyi, a staunch Pirates supporter, left immediately after the match, ostensibly avoiding further verbal abuse from Chiefs fans.
Many people who were at Seshego Stadium, watching a friendly between Capricorn FM DJs - led by Shonisani "Shabba" Muleya - and Phuti Seloba's department of health and social development a few hours before the derby, kept reminding each other about the importance of watching the Chiefs-Pirates tie later.
The organisers of the friendly should be applauded for organising a big screen for people who wanted to watch the derby at the stadium.
