Zuma's spokesman, Liesl Göttert, said the pair met on Wednesday where the apology was extended by Bullard and also "unreservedly" accepted by Zuma .
The two articles Zuma found offensive were Bullard's Out to Lunch columns in the Sunday Times in April and May 2006.
Zuma has now decided to withdraw the injuria cases he instituted against Bullard and his co-defendants relating to the articles.
During the peace offering Zuma offered some advice to Bullard, who was recently sacked for an article deemed racist by the paper, and urged him not to end his career .
"We need talented journalists like you to write responsibly and we need journalists who have experienced the pain and humiliation of being on the wrong side of the media to share these experiences with their colleagues," Zuma reportedly said.
The pair agreed that the families of those who were the subject of news reports had to be considered "when these journalists exercisetheir freedom of speech". - Sapa
