Elias Shabangu lived a life devoted to teaching and produce generations of successful businesspeople.
Shabangu, 81, passed away after a long illness on April 29.
After 35 years in teaching, Shabangu retired in 1992. He last taught at Orlando West High.
He began his teaching career at St Esgus in Roodepoort West and proceeded to Boikanyo Primary School in Dobsonville.
Born on March 16 1927 Shabangu received his education at the Delmas Amalgamated Native School.
He completed his teaching diploma at the Kilnerton Training Institution.
He attained a certificate in woodwork and instructorship from the Dundee Industrial Bantu School.
Shabangu was very involved in his community and was a founder member of the ACFS community nutritional education and feeding scheme, known as Malebese.
His family, students and community will remember him as a man who loved people.
Shabangu, of 1617 Sebigi Street, Dobsonville, is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He will be buried tomorrow at the Old Dobsonville cemetery. The service at the Dobsonville Methodist Church starts at 8am.
