South African junior athletes will be hoping to emulate the success of their seniors when they compete in the CCA Southern Region Junior Championships in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare on June 7 and 8.

The 37-member squad was announced by Athletics South Africa (ASA) yesterday, less than 24 hours after the arrival of the senior team that conquered the continent in the senior version of the championships in Ethiopia. Molatelo Malehopo, the organisation's acting general manager, said the success of the senior team in Ethiopia has motivated the juniors going into the Southern Region event.

The World Championships will be held in Bydgoszcz, Poland, from July 8 to 13.

The Southern Region event will serve as a platform for the selection of the final team to the IAAF World Junior Championships.
