A chance to pick right candidate

Our country has an opportunity in 2009 to elect the best candidate to restart our progress as a nation.

Our country has an opportunity in 2009 to elect the best candidate to restart our progress as a nation.

Until confirmed otherwise, we can reasonably presume Jacob Zuma will be the presidential candidate of the under-performing ruling party.

Helen Zille is likely to be the DA's candidate.

It is also likely that Mosibudi Mangena will be the Azapo candidate.

South Africans are realising that the ANC and DA are virtually the same in terms of performance and lack of principle.

Both have allowed and even encouraged socio-economic and racial inequalities to endure and have failed to address poverty.

Both the ANC and DA support rampant free market capitalism that has increased inequality and has left our standard of living vulnerable to commodity price fluctuations and interest rate hikes.

This contrasts with Azapo's policy positions. Only Azapo has committed itself to free education up to tertiary level, giving the same opportunity to all our children.

The choice between Zuma, Zille and Mangena will go a long way to improving on our nation building effort.

Samore Herbstein,

Azapo secretary for
