The 2010 Fifa World Cup Government Unit has kick-started the process of mobilising support for Bafana Bafana for the tournament.

Led by acting head Dan Moyo, the unit has initiated a meeting with supporters of various Premiership clubs held in Tshwane last week.

The fans, who include Freddy Maake (Kaizer Chiefs) and Gladys Bailey (Ajax Cape Town), represent the South African Football Supporters Associations (Safsa).

Collin Nxumalo of Jomo Cosmos is the chairman of Safsa, who is happy that the government has formed a partnership with them.

Other members of Safsa are Lazarus Mogotsi (Bloemfontein Celtic), Robert Nkosi (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Johannes "Mzion" Mofokeng (Orlando Pirates).

Also on the committee are Mbeki Hlatshwayo, chairman of the Bafana Bafana choir, and Ivan Geldart (Moroka Swallows).

Moyo is excited Safsa were also serious about ensuring that the tournament was a roaring success, including at games where Bafana Bafana were not involved.

"The aim of the meeting was to explore possible areas of cooperation towards ensuring that the entire South African nation rallies behind the tournament.

"The mobilisation strategies will also ensure that all South Africans, including women and youth, are lured into the stadia through innovative ideas.

"We will also strike partnerships with the municipalities to mobilise supporters to attend activities planned to take place at fan parks and public viewing areas.

"The programme will be intertwined with other initiatives aimed at mobilising support throughout the African continent," said Moyo.
