Legendary reggae star Eddy Grant quietly breezed into the country yesterday morning to rehearse with One People, the late Lucky Dube's band, for his coming European tour.
The Eddy Grant Reparation Tour marks the star's return to live performances after a long absence.
Set to run from June until the end of October, the tour will cover the whole of Europe.
According to Lena Mochoele, who was Dube's manager for Africa and now One People's, they will play at one of the most important festivals Lucky performed at.
"In a way this is going to be a nostalgic encounter for One People who for the next couple of months will play Eddy's repertoire," a subdued Mochoele says. "They will go back to the festivals they last played at with Rasta - something that is bound to take them back."
One People will back Grant at the Glastonbury Jazz World Stage, Nelson Mandela Show at Hyde Park in the UK, Hyde Park Wireless Festival in Scotland, Dublin Oxegen Festival and Womad Festival in the UK.
Mochoele says it was by sheer chance that they hooked up with the Jamaican legend.
"Grant mentioned to Pam Deveux Harris, the wife of Steve Harris, Universal Music's CEO, that he was looking for a band to accompany him.
"She recommended One People. Eddy had seen them perform with Lucky a couple of times."
