Province to cut down costs

The Limpopo government will from now on work hard to minimise its expenses, if resolutions taken at the executive committee meeting is anything to go by.

The meeting, which took place last week, resolved among other things to cut down on international missions.

It introduced austere measures to minimise costs incurred on workshops, conferences, symposiums, seminars, year-end functions and the purchase of state vehicles and IT consumables such as computers.

According to a report released after the meeting, the province aims to concentrate on service delivery. The report indicates that the government has been able to settle the overdraft that has been a great cause for concern over the years.

"This is mainly attributed to the strict financial control measures introduced towards the end of last year," states the report.

The meeting directed the provincial treasury to continue to put these strict control measures in place in terms of financial management.
