A week ago Sipho Makhubu, a Good Samaritan and owner of S-3 Funeral Undertakers in Eldorado Park, was fined for transporting baby Kenosi's body from a hospital in Sebokeng to the S-3 mortuary in Eldorado Park.
Makhubu was one of the sympathisers who helped give baby Kenosi a decent farewell yesterday.
One-month-old Baby Kenosi died in hospital a week ago after being found abandoned in the veld in Bonane, Vanderbijilpark.
With no parents or relatives to claim her body, Sowetan, the Vanderbijilpark SAPS, Makhubu and the community got together to give her a decent send-off yesterday.
"A metro police official stopped me, checked my documents and fined me R200," Makhubu said. "He said I was 'conveying goods without a professional driving permit'."
JPMD spokesman Inspector Edna Mamonyane said the Traffic Act specifies that goods or passengers may be transported and not corpses or human remains.
"The officer acted in terms of the act. The driver should have been in possession of a public driving permit for transporting a body," Mamonyane said.
Makhubu was in possession of Kenosi's file from the hospital, his business and driver's licence.
