Aliens pelt cops with faeces

A Durban court yesterday ordered that six illegal Tanzanians, who pelted police officers with human faeces while in the cells, be sent back to their country.

The six men, aged between 26 and 30, had been arrested in Isipingo, south of Durban, on Friday.

They were held at the Isipingo police station while awaiting feedback from the Tanzanian embassy.

Police spokesman Vincent Mdunge said police reinforcements had to be called in when the men attacked police officers with the human waste.

"The men became angry when they were told that our officers could not contact the embassy on Friday since it was a public holiday," Mdunge said.

"They defecated and urinated in the police cells, and then threw the faeces on our officers.

"They also set the blankets in the cell alight."

Mdunge said reinforcements from nearby police stations were called in to defuse the situation and assist the local officers.

"The men had to be split up and sent to various police stations in the area until their court appearance," he said.

"We are still waiting for feedback from the Tanzanian embassy on how they will be sent back home."

The men were also charged with malicious damage to police property, Mdunge confirmed.
