The system will cost R1,9billion.
This was announced by mayor Gwen Ramokgopa at the 2010 World Cup imbizo last Thursday night. Ramokgopha said the municipality will buy an additional 200 buses.
Like other major cities, Tshwane is introducing the BRT to address the public transport challenges ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The first phase, which will see dedicated bus lanes established, will be ready for 2010 and it one of the city's key legacy projects.
Ramokgopa also announced that all the roads were being improved in the city and those leading to World Cup training venues and other projects in the townships will also be widened to deal with the high volumes of traffic in 2010.
The road leading to Loftus Stadium will also to be widened, which will come as a major relief to many soccer followers.
The upgrading of roads will cost R100 million.
Ramokgopa said the municipality will spend R500 million on upgrading facilities to be used for the World Cup.
Also present at the imbizo were Tim Modise, the LOC's communications director, and Brazil's ambassador to South Africa, Jose Vicente.
