The vehicles are 42 fully equipped ambulances, 11 patient transport vehicles and nine specialised rapid response cars.
The provincial department of health has appointed 744 emergency personnel to ensure an efficient and effective service across the province.
The province's primary health care budget currently stands at R3 billion, which will rise to R4,2 billion in the 2008-09 financial year.
The department plans to build more clinics in rural areas and to increase the number of centres of excellence.
The number of mini-hospitals offering trauma and obstetric services would increase from 18 to 40, with community health centres growing from 50 to 60.
About 68 new clinics will be handed over to communities and six district hospitals and about 50 remote rural clinics will get telemedicine facilities.
