Mpumalanga police have arrested a teenager accused of having terrorised the local community.

Oupa Vilakazi, wanted for murder allegedly committed on April 6 this year at Daantjie in Pienaar, was arrested when the police raided a tavern.

He ran away but police pursued him and opened fire when they realised he was getting away.

He now faces two counts of murder. Police say he killed Vusi Shongwe, 27, a co-accused in the murder of a woman in April.

KaNyamazane Police Constable Chicco Nkosi says the two were arrested for the murder of the woman but Shongwe was released due to lack of evidence.

"Shongwe later turned state witness and Vilakazi [out on bail] shot him dead."
