High-ranking officials at the University of Venda have allegedly authorised a company to render cleaning services without following proper tender procedures.

The company was allegedly paid though the university employs full-time cleaners.

According to documents in the possession of Sowetan, MCTREV Consultancy, trading as Cleanshop, was allegedly paid R50000 but never did a day's work.

The company allegedly did not even have a tax clearance certificate when it procured the business.

Documents in Sowetan's possession show that Univen registrar Khuliso Nemadzivhanani and suspended executive director of finance and planning Tendani Ramulongo recommended that Cleanshop be paid R50000.

Sowetan has learnt that junior staff refused to sign the cheque, claiming there was no tender, but Ramulongo allegedly insisted that it be signed.
