Vaal police are still looking for the mother or relatives of a month-old infant whose body was found in the bushes near Bonane in Vanderbijlpark last week.

Police spokesman Constable Mandla Zwane said baby Kenosi's body was still in the government mortuary in Sebokeng.

"We are investigating a murder case," Zwane said yesterday. "No one has come forward to claim the baby yet."

Baby Kenosi, as Sowetan named her, was found by Sello Mokhoro last week while he was cutting grass in Bonane.

The little girl, wrapped in a bundle of rags, was cold and hungry when Mokhoro found her.

Kenosi was taken to hospital where nurses and doctors tried to save her life but she died on Wednesday.

Constable Zwane said his station would also contribute to the burial of baby Kenosi.

S-3 Undertakers of Eldorado Park have also offered to help give baby Kenosi a proper burial.

Sowetan has also decided to give the baby a decent send-off.

We have started a fund to ensure that Kenosi is given a decent burial.

Sowetan took this step because her mother or relatives have not been found and we want to prevent her being buried as a pauper.

Baby Kenosi will be buried on Tuesday next week in the Vaal.
