A third men has been arrested in connection with Tuesday afternoon's shootout drama in which the police rescued a kidnapped man.

Police said the man turned himself in at the Wynberg police station at 8am yesterday.

The men kidnapped a Vaal man on Monday and demanded a R50000 ransom from his wife.

On Tuesday the suspects walked into a trap and two of them were arrested. Two others escaped after exchanging fire with the police.

The two appeared in court on Wednesday morning.

"The man is one of the two suspects who fled during the shootout with the police in Alexandra on Tuesday," said police spokesman Constable Neria Malefetse.

The police said the drama started on Monday when the victim went to meet two men at the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg to conclude a deal involving fraudulent driver's licences.

"Instead the two kidnapped the man in Alexandra and called his wife demanding R50000," Malefetse said.

The men threatened to kill him if they were not given the money.

Malefetse said the kidnapped man's wife alerted the police, while his brother-in-law organised the money after being told about it.

But on Tuesday police rescued the man after they were led to a house in Alexandra where he was kept hostage.
