Sanco Free State on revival crusade

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) intends to use its coming 16th anniversary celebrations at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium, Bloemfontein, on May 25 to revive the organisation, general secetary Patrick Qibi said at the launch yesterday.

"Sanco has gone through trying times recently and I must say that little has been done to rebuild the organisation," Qibi said.

The conference of the organisation in 2006, held at the University of Free State, Bloemfontein, was suspended because of leadership squabbles.

"We must learn from our mistakes and hold future discussions on Sanco's renewal," he said.

Sanco Free State is looking at hosting another conference in Bloemfontein later this year.

"We urge members of the organisation to identify the issues we need to engage and which might form the basis of an organisational renewal," Qibi said.

Several high-profile ANC, SACP and Cosatu alliance members and Free State Premier Beatrice Marshoff are expected to attend
