A fugitive was wounded in the hand and groin yesterday when he tried to resist arrest by North West police.

The police had been looking for him in connection with the murder of a Lichtenburg farming couple.

Inspector Carina Fourie said an investigating team - acting on a community tip-off - tracked the man down in the Molopo area early yesterday morning. However, when they tried to arrest him he allegedly pulled out a 6.35mm pistol and pointed it at one of the policeman. The officer opened fire on him while he lay on the ground and arrested him, said Fourie. - Sapa
