miniskirt fest 'to be hot'

Nwabisi Ngcukana, a recent victim of indecent abuse by randy taxi drivers at Noord Street taxi rank, is taking the miniskirt campaign nationwide.

Together with her supporters, she is launchinga Miniskirt Festival on Sunday, Freedom Day.

"There is a significance to this. We want to be free. We are a free country and everyone else should respect that. This one is going to be hot," said Ngcukana, who will be in a miniskirt on the day.

Afro-pop star Kelly Khumalo, controversial actress, singer and socialite Khanyi Mbau, and gay socialite and medical doctor Dr Love, will be there.

The festival has been organised in conjunction with the House of Zodiac Promotions, headed by Terry Mokoena. The campaign is supported by activists - male and female - and celebrities.

The festival is expected to attract throngs of miniskirted women to Capello's Kliptown at Walter Sisulu Square on Sunday where leading DJs like Tira and Jozi FM's Prince Tshabalala will spin the discs.

"A miniskirt is a miniskirt and no one should take away a women's right to wear one. That' s why I support this initiative," Mbau told Soweta n yesterday.

The Miniskirt Festival fee is R35 a head, and will start at noon.
