Case for sexual offences court

McKeed Kotlolo

Contrary to our report on Tuesday, the case of the 86-year-old Mpumalanga traditional healer accused of raping 15 minors has been transferred to the Middelburg sexual offences court for trial in June - and not the high court.

Mgudwa Malinga of Carolina and his co-accused, Lina Zwane, previously appeared in the Carolina sexual offences court and had their case transferred to the Middelburg sexual offences court under the same magistrate, BW Mene, who presided over the case in Carolina.

Their trial starts on June 10.

The transfer followed an application by the directorate of public prosecutions "for convenience".

Malinga is being held at the Carolina prison after his bail bid was turned down, while Zwane, 32, had her bail conditions extended until their next court appearance.

Malinga is alleged to have raped young girls, who he had been keeping as sex slaves on his farm. They were aged between four and 15.

Every night the girls reportedly paraded naked before him so that he choose one to spend the night with.
