Police in Nebo, Limpopo, are investigating a murder case after a stalker was allegedly assaulted to death by a woman's husband.

The incident happened at GaMasemola village near Jane Furse in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 35-year-old victim from Majaneng Section in GaMasemola had allegedly gone to the woman's home unaware that her husband was present.

He had allegedly been stalking the woman for some time.

Police spokesman Inspector Maboke Lediga said preliminary investigations had revealed that the victim, whose name is being withheld until his next-of-kin have been notified, had been proposing love to the woman.

Lediga said the woman had turned the man down.

"On the day in question [yesterday] at about 1am the victim went to the woman's home unaware that her husband was around," Lediga said.

The husband works in construction in Seshego.

According to Lediga the woman's husband told her to open the door when someone knocked.

"It appears he was ready to attack," Lediga said.

He said the woman opened the door and the man entered the house.

"It was at this stage that the husband attacked the man," Lediga said. "He assaulted him with all sorts of objects, including a plank and sticks."

He said the man was rushed to Jane Furse Hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival.

The suspect, aged 49, was arrested and is expected to appear in the Nebo magistrate's court tomorrow.

"The police we really condemn incidents in which members of the community take the law into their own hands," Lediga said.

"The services of the police are always within reach and one must make use of them.

"Now the law will take its course in this matter."
