A 29-year-old man has been arrested for stealing copper wire, police said yesterday.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested for stealing copper wire, police said yesterday.

"The man was arrested at his home in Northdene, Vanderbijlpark, on Monday, after police responded to a tip-off by community members," said Constable Mandlakayise Zwane.

Zwane said police went to the man's house and found hacksaws and a pair of pliers in his bin outside.

Constable Zwana said when police knocked on his door the man tried to escape through a window.

"After police searched the house, copper wire worth R16000 was found."

Police are still searching for another man who might be linked to the thefts.

The theft suspect will appear in court shortly. - Sapa
