The Sasol New Signatures Art Competition, one of the oldest art competitions, is back.
Established 19 years ago it has unearthed a lot of talent over the years.
Now it is back looking for South Africans whose creativity can be unleashed in this prestigious annual competition.
The competition carries R100000 in prize money, with a first prize of R60000, second of R15000 and five merit awards of R5000 each.
The winners will be announced at the opening of the competition's exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum on August 20.
Sasol art curator Teresa Lizamore says: "The New Signatures Art Competition is both the longest-running and most prestigious competition for emerging artists in South Africa.
"Over the years it has made a significant contribution to promoting and exposing the creative talent of new artists to the South African public."
To give more emerging artists the opportunity to enter the competition, all works selected for the exhibition will be transported by Sasol.
Lizamore says workshops will be held nationally to help artists understand the judging process and to give advice on conceptualisation.
"The competition is open to up-and-coming South African artists aged 18 and older, who have not yet held a solo exhibition, apart from an exhibition being held for academic purposes. We invite artists to submit one or two art works at six venues across the country or via the Internet," says Lizamore.
