Now IFP goes one further

We have spoken out against attempts by the ANC to distort history to give the impression that only it fought for the liberation of our country.

We have spoken out against attempts by the ANC to distort history to give the impression that only it fought for the liberation of our country.

The ruling party does so by, among other things, renaming almost every significant landmark in our country after its own leaders, dead or alive.

Now the IFP is following the example set by its bitter political rival.

Inkatha feels hard done by the ANC-led KwaZulu-Natal government's decision to provide houses for former liberation movement soldiers.

The party with a questionable role during the liberation struggle decries the noble and overdue gesture as unfair.

The IFP wants former members of its paramilitary forces who fought ferocious battles against the liberation movements to also be given houses.

IFP provincial chairman Mntomuhle Khawula speaks glowingly of the party's notorious so-called self-defence units (SDUs)

"They were fighting against apartheid but nothing is said of them," he says without a hint of irony. "It's good to acknowledge the role played [by people] during apartheid but we need to know where the line is drawn."

Thanks for asking Mr Khawula. The answer is very simple: the line is drawn on which side one fought.

Liberation movement cadres fought to destroy the evil system of white supremacy. The IFP's armed squads fought against the liberation forces, thus propping up the apartheid regime.

Capice?
