Deputy President Phumzile MlamboNgcuka yesterday became a victim of load-shedding during her visit to Polokwane.
She was visiting the city to inspect the progress being made in the construction of the new Peter Mokaba Sports Complex that will host some of the 2010 World Cup games.
She was forced to stop addressing members of the preparation committee, local organising committee, media and other stakeholders at a function at Meropa Casino.
While everybody was listening attentively to her the power suddenly went off. She had to continue with her speech without a loudspeaker.
When the electricity went off some people in the hall shouted "load-shedding", much to the embarrassment of the organisers of the event.
The deputy president expressed her satisfaction with the way construction of the stadium was progressing.
She also expressed her satisfaction with other facilities such as roads, accommodation, hospitality and other facilities related to the 2010 World Cup.
"I have no doubt that Polokwane will be ready come 2010," MlamboNgcuka said. "It is also encouraging that the municipality has brought in volunteers to help them."
Polokwane executive mayor Thabo Makunyane said that 924 people had been employed to ensure the project was completed on time.
The stadium is expected to be completed in June 2009.
