Gauteng MEC for education MEC and teacher representatives will set the record straight today over the 28 "lazy" teachers fired by the department last week after pupils complained they were not being taught.

During the visit to the school today, MEC Angie Motshekga and representatives of teacher unions will discuss the future of KwaBhekilanga Secondary School in Alexandra and reveal the decisions made at several meetings about the dismissals.

"The outcomes of the MEC's interventions has pleased us. We accept the outcome and believe it is in the learners' interests," South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) regional secretary Ronald Nyathi said yesterday.

He said that uninterrupted teaching resumed yesterday after following the clash last week between pupils and teachers.

On Friday, Nyathi said the unions had managed to persuade the department to reverse its decision to fire the teachers.
