District municipality scores with good service delivery
A survey of residents, undertaken by the University of South Africa's (Unisa) Bureau for Market Research, has given the thumbs up to a remote district municipality for its service delivery.
The customer satisfaction survey, commissioned by the Greater Sekhukhune district municipality (GSDM), rated the provision of core municipal services as "good". This means residents gave the municipality 7,39 out of a possible 10.
The survey focused on core services - electricity provision, refuse collection, neighbourhood streets or roads, storm water systems, street lights, sanitation and water provision.
The survey also asked residents to comment on municipal community services such as recreation centres, fire and ambulance services, cemeteries, municipal clinics, parks, pedestrian walkways, public libraries, sports facilities, public toilets, road maintenance, government housing, street sweeping-litter control and traffic lights.
Here the municipality scored ratings from adequate to very good.
Municipal spokesman Sizwe Yende said the exercise was the first comprehensive service satisfaction survey conducted in the district's five municipalities: Fetakgomo, Elias Motsoaledi, Makhuduthamaga, Marble Hall and Tubatse.
The survey was conducted in terms of Section 55 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act No 32 of 2000, which stipulates that a municipality should maintain and develop a system to regularly assess community satisfaction.
