Mickey Modisane, Orlando Pirates' spokesman, said yesterday that they still harbour hopes of securing a CAF Champions League qualifying spot this season.
For the Buccaneers to achieve their goal, they will need to finish second but this appears to be a far-fetched goal after Owen da Gama's side dropped vital points in their recent outings.
The Buccaneers last won a league match on March 5 when they beat an equally confused Bloemfontein Celtic away.
Pirates, who are sixth on the standings on 36 points from 25 matches, will need to win their remaining five matches and hope that the teams above them lose theirs to qualify to play in the lucrative competition next season.
As things stand, it will be crucial for them to beat second-placed Ajax Cape Town, who they meet in an Absa Premiership fixture at Athlone Stadium tomorrow.
Kickoff is at 7.30pm.
But Pirates have been struggling to win and they could find it difficult to overcome the Urban Warriors, who need a win to get their title challenge back on track.
"Obviously, it is not going to be easy to realise our goal but we are a professional team and will fight hard until the last match of the season," said Modisane.
