Phalula twins set new goals

The Phalula sisters are hoping to make their comeback at the African Championships in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, later this month.

After a year that was fraught with injuries, twin sisters Lebo and Lebogang's immediate goals are to regain the form that saw them dominate the local 800m and 1500m, after the hardship of 2007.

Lebo was the first to be sidelined, and then her sister was out with a hamstring knock three weeks later. They have since started to compete, doing well in the Yellow Pages series.

Lebo is determined to run a time that will get her to the Beijing Olympics when she gets to the continental championships, although she last won a race in February. For her to qualify, she has to run a time of two minutes for the 800m and 4,07 minutes for the 1500m.

"Lebogang and I will face the likes of Maria Mutola and Gladys Samaria, and there is always the Kenyans. The goal is to get to the finals because once you are in there anything is possible," said Lebo.

The sisters ran the International Grand Prix last week, and though they came third and fourth could not qualify.
