The Lesotho Football Association (Lefa) has employed a new coach with the hope he will help the country realise its dream of qualifying for its first appearance in the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals in South Africa.
He is Serbian Zavisa Milosajlvesic, who, according to sources in the Mountain Kingdom, will earn $10000 (about R80000) a month. At the same time, Basotho are hoping to rewrite history by going to the 27th MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals in Luanda, Angola, the same year.
Milosajlvesic was unveiled to the various stakeholders in Lesotho on Thursday by the country's governing soccer body, including minister of sports and youth affairs, Mathabiso Lepono.
"We are delighted to have hired a great coach in Zavisa, he is familiar with African football after having been part of the African Champions League," Tshiu Monne, Lefa executive committee member, said yesterday.
"He has a degree in physical education and that will help us get the selected players in shape for the quali- fiers. He is also in possession of a Uefa coaching licence.
"We have made it clear that we want Likoena to qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. The 2010 World Cup is taking place in South Africa and we need to take advantage of that. We have some great soccer players in Lesotho."
