Lady golfer, Pindi Mlandu, this week sent a strong-worded letter to the executive mayor of Merafong, Des van Rooyen, complaining about the manner in which she was treated at the Blyvooruitzicht golf club recently.

Mlandu was one of the golfers who took part in the fundraising event for a Mohla- keng Lutheran Church.

She said after the tournament, she was refused permission to use the ladies' change- rooms by a number of white women at the golf club.

Mlandu said they instructed her to leave the changerooms and use the one that was used by employees of the club.

She approached Joseph Rammusa, the club's chairman, who also told her that she must do as the white women said.

"I left him and went back to the so-called white golfers' change rooms and they started to scream at me, but I turned a deaf ear."

Golfers who were taking part in that event told Sowetan that Rammusa was being used by whites and that resulted in most black golfers leaving and joining the nearby Goldfields club. They said racism was still rife at the Blyvooruitzicht Golf Club.

A statement from the golf club said: "The golf club is a non-racial facility that boasts a number of black golfers among its members.

"The committee views the race-related complaint in a very serious light. We won't tolerate such things and the manner in which they spoke to Mlandu is unacceptable."

Merafong mayor, Van Rooyen confirmed that he has received Mlandu's he letter and was attending to it.
