After the Soweto Big Three were booted out of the Nedbank Cup, some club coordinators have offered to assist the sponsors to garner more support for the semifinals and the final by forming a task team.

Kaizer Chiefs' No 1 supporter, Saddam Maake, who is a spokesman for a task team, said yesterday that they would start working on how to bring fans to the semifinal and the final of this inaugural competition.

Maake said they would draw up a programme which would be a guideline for them on when and how they should stage roadshows.

"We're aware that teams that have a large following are out of the competition and we're saying let us support the game.

"The fact that this competition is being staged for the first time means we need to get highly involved and assist in making it a success," said Maake.

Greg Harwood, the Nedbank Cup media relations officer, said they were delighted when approached by club coordinators who were keen to offer their support for the competition.

"It is important for fans to support the game, irrespective of which teams are in the semifinals or final. Even if crowd pullers like Chiefs and Pirates are out it will be nice to see them at the games."
