Sewing classes in school curricula are relatively rare these days. Traditional, and once mandatory, clothing courses have been replaced by what is perceived as more critically needed subjects such as parenting, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, and more stringent academic subjects.

Those who like to pursue sewing as a career are forced to go to privately or individually owned schools. Therefore, if you can effectively communicate your sewing knowledge and skills, the rewards can be great.

Out of all areas of specialisation in sewing, teaching is one of the most profitable. Also, don't let the lack of a home economics degree keep you from turning your talents to a career in teaching.

Since many young people of today were not taught sewing by their parents and grandparents, there is a real need for those who know how to sew to teach others. If you know how to sew, and can teach others, you have a very marketable skill. You can very easily set up your own home-based business of teaching other people how to sew.

With your business of teaching people how to sew, you can teach small classes or individuals. You can choose to teach adults or children, or even a combination of the two.
