Police arrested at least 25 people for various offences and recovered eight hijacked vehicles in Durban's Umlazi suburb, police said yesterday.

Police arrested at least 25 people for various offences and recovered eight hijacked vehicles in Durban's Umlazi suburb, police said yesterday.

Superintendent Daniela Veldhuizen said the police made the arrests during an anti-crime operation that began on Friday.

"The 25 were arrested for crimes such as rape, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, common assault, intimidation, house-breaking, attempted murder and drugs."

The police also recovered two pistols, a home-made firearm and a video machine. - Sapa
