Suspended students at Mangosuthu University of Technology will know tomorrow if they will be reinstated in time to write their exams next month.
The affected students were not prepared to comment for fear of victimisation.
Though the situation returned to normal yesterday, concerned parents want university rector Mseshi Ndlovu to reinstate the students by Monday.
If not, all hell would break loose again, the parents said.
On Tuesday violent protests erupted at the institution. Tyres were set alight and one person was shot.
The students would only say that they expected Ndlovu and his management to meet them tomorrow.
The protesting parents of the affected students have vowed that there will be more disruptions if their children are not allowed to return to class.
Robert Mazibuko, a spokesman for the parents, said they expected Ndlovu to "deal with their demands or expect the worst".
"We only want him to reinstate the suspended students," Mazibuko said.
"He told us he does not own the institution, that it belongs to the government. We only ask that our children be reinstated while negotiations continue.
"The children must write their exams.".
He said if management does not address the situation by Monday, the parents will protest again on Tuesday.
At yesterdays protest parents handed a memorandum of demands to management. They want Ndlovu to resign because, they said, he was not interested in the future of the students.
They demanded that Ndlovu lift the suspension so that the students could attend lectures and prepare for their exams.
Ndlovu refused to comment and university spokesman Sanele Zondi was unavailable.
Zondi's secretary said he was in a meeting and promised to call us.
