The Nedbank Johannesburg City Marathon is expected to attract a multitude of athletes as the event will be the last chance for them to qualify for the Comrades Marathon.
The City Marathon, which will take runners through some of the country's heritage sites in Johannesburg, will be held on May 4.
Some of the historic sites along the marathon route are Nelson Mandela Bridge, Christ the King Anglican Church in Sophiatown, Constitutional Hill and the Apartheid Museum.
The toughest parts of the route will be the hills around Westdene Dam, the University of Johannesburg and Constitutional Hill.
The course has a demanding first-half, but this will serve as an ideal dry run - a steady climb of about 150m in the first 7,5km - for the athletes who are preparing for the Comrades.
Entry forms for the City Marathon are obtainable from the following sports shops: Bedford Runner, Fourways Runner, Randburg Runner, The Sweatshop in Dunkeld, Fourways and Irene.
In Pretoria, they can be obtained at Varsity Sports, Run-a-Way Sport and Running Inn. Forms will also be available at Athletics South Africa's office in Houghton, Johannesburg, and also online at www.nedbanksponsorships.co.za
The closing date for entries is 25 April.
Renee Jordaan, the Comrades Marathon director, said entries for the ultra event will close on May 5 and urged runners not to miss the chance to compete in the KwaZulu-Natal race by failing to participate in the City event.
