Twelve men were convicted to a total of 248 years in jail for charges ranging from assault, armed robbery to rape.

One of the men, Mandla Hlongwane, 25, was sentenced to 65 years for rape and armed robbery.

Paulos Mohlakoane, 25, was sentenced to 22 years for rape. Mosiuoa Stephen Keke, 25, was given 10 years for rape.

John Seekane, 22, and Michael Seekane, 18, each got 18 years for rape.

France Mthombeni, 23, was sentenced to life for rape and assault.

Zolile Nqaba, 20, and Vusi Sephonye, 23, each got 18 years for gang rape. Lucas Falatsi, 31, was sentenced to 20 years for rape.

Lucky Mthimkhulu, 21, and Tshepo Mthimkhulu, 19, were both sentenced to 22 years for gang rape.

Pule Makhole, 33, was found guilty of attempted rape and was sentenced to 15 years.

Sebokeng police spokesman Superintendent Nthabiseng Mazi- buko also said 972 people had also been arrested recently for various offences.

"We would like to thank the community for working together with us, particularly the street patrols," Mazibuko said.
