Indications are that FC Cape Town could match their more illustrious opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns, in terms of support when the two teams meet in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
Kickoff is at 8pm.
The National First Division (NFD) side will not only bank on their supporters, but also on those of their neighbours Ajax Cape Town and Santos.
Errol Dicks, FC Cape Town's boss, said they were excited that the management of Ajax and Santos were encouraging their supporters to rally behind his team on Saturday.
"We are not relaxing but are working hard to woo more people of Western Province to rally behind us. I have been given assurance by the people I have spoken to because they know that we can cause an upset on Saturday," said the outspoken Dicks yesterday.
He added: "The City of Cape Town is also assisting us in marketing the match and we are grateful for this. We are also engaging officials from other sporting codes in the province to assist us in our drive and we are succeeding.
"This match is not only important to us but to all the people of Western Province."
Dicks said they were eager to rekindle the good old days of Seven Stars who used to attract spectators in droves in their matches when playing in the Mother City.
Dicks and his team have to work tirelessly to avoid being drowned out because Sundowns have promised to bring their supporters in big numbers to this match.
Dicks said they had also warned their players not to be intimidated by the profile of their opponents.
Johnny Ferreira, the side's coach, rested some of his key players in their 1-1 drawn league match against Western Province United on Saturday and they will be ready for the in-form Sundowns.
The players include Morne Davids, Tshepo Moletsane and Marchelino Fransch who will try to upset the likes of Josta Dladla and Surprise Moriri.
Meanwhile, Mpumalanga Black Aces' spokesman Thabo Moroape said they also anticipate a big crowd when they engage Nathi Lions in an all-NFD affair in another quarterfinal match on Saturday.
They confront each other at Atlantic Stadium in Witbank at 3pm.
Free State Stars host Santos at Gobel Park Stadium on Sunday because the Welkom Stadium is unavailable.
The match kicks off at 3pm.
Black Leopards entertain AmaZulu at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday at 5pm.
