Presenter Brian "DJ Brian" Rikhotso is back to co-host a breakfast show on Munghana Lonene FM after he was acquitted of a double murder two months ago.

Rikhotso shocked showbiz last year when he was charged with the murder of a pastor and a senior politician, but now he's been slotted into the new programming to attract younger listeners.

He has been on suspension by the station.

The changes see DJ Brian returning to Phaphama breakfast from 7am-9am with co-host Sydney Baloyi.

There are a number of other moves in the DJ line-up and the station has recruited new presenters too.

Tebogo Magubane will host the International Top 30 on Saturdays, Junior Zitha will host the Saturday evening programmes while Rebecca Maluleke will host the early Sunday slot from 3am-6am. Mindzhumba ya Africa, which used to be hosted by DJ Brian, will be presented by the energetic Patrick Mathebula.

"With this type of line-up, Munghana Lonene FM is ready to compete with the best," acting marketing manager James Shikwambana said.

"We will also be launching our new logo before the end of June."

It was necessary to introduce the DJ and logo changes to encourage a competitive edge, acting station manager Tshamaano Nepfhumbada said.

"Radio has become very competitive and crowded in South Africa with the introduction of new radio stations.

"So we look at our line-up and ask ourselves if we are still on the right track.

"We also had to respond to the SABC's vision of broadcasting for total citizen empowerment."

The new line-up comes into effect on May 1 at the 43-year-old radio station.
