Khulu Sibiya, SuperSport United chairman, is overjoyed that coach Gavin Hunt has not disappointed to date on his mandate to win the Absa Premiership.

Sibiya was smiling from ear to ear after Matsatsantsa inflicted the third defeat in a row on Orlando Pirates this season, winning 1-0.

In the first clash, United bundled Pirates out of the SAA Supa 8 semifinals (2-1) and went on win the first round of the league 3-1.

"This victory means a lot to me," said Sibiya, whose board dug their heels in by retaining Hunt when the club was going through a bad patch earlier this season.

At the time, when United were donating points, many people thought the management was going to dismiss him.

"When we employed Gavin the mandate was to win us the league title. I know there were times when many people wanted us to get rid of him," said Sibiya. "All that I can say at this stage is that we are well on track."

"We played well and deserved to win. We should have scored a few more goals but a win is a win. Credit to the boys and technical team for a job well done," said Sibiya, himself a former Pirates player when he was still a teenager.

Sibiya could not contain his excitement after the final whistle, and went to the dressing room to congratulate his team on an important victory. General manager Bafana Dhlamini was with Sibiya.
