No arrests yet after brothers, friend shot in fit of road rage
A trip to the Ridgeway Spar shopping centre in Johannesburg turned out to be a life changing experience for brothers Lyndol, 20, and Leroy Bennet, 18, and friend Ashton Pretorius, 24.
The three were shot and almost killed by an unknown man in an apparent fit of road rage.
No one has yet been arrested for the shootings.
On February 9 the driver of a Mercedes-Benz almost drove into the Corsa the three were travelling in.
"Instead of apologising, the man stepped out his vehicle, insulted the passengers of the Corsa, opened the door and hit the boy (Lyndol)," said car guard David Mahlatini.
Leroy and Ashton jumped out of the car in a bid to help Lyndol.
"I couldn't let my brother get hit while I watched," said Leroy. "The people who tried to stop the fight did not stop that guy. Instead they let him go."
The man ran to his car and took out a firearm.
A witness, Shelley Sampson, said: "I heard several gunshots and screams. I saw my former classmate Lyndol being dragged out of the car by a bloodied Leroy. I thought he was dead."
The man approached the car and and shor Lyndol in the arm twice and in his ankle and abdomen. He then turned and shot at Ashton.
Despite having information about the man's occupation the police have not yet arrested him.
A case of attempted murder has been opened. Mondeor police spokesman Captain Johan du Toit said they were investigating.
