After the conclusion of the ANC Youth League's national conference in Mangaung, Free State, the youth structure in Limpopo yesterday laid wreaths on the grave of former league president Peter Mokaba.

The ceremony in Mankweng, outside Polokwane, was to thank Mokaba for protecting, guiding and blessing them throughout the conference.

Julius Malema was elected league president.

Addressing the crowd yesterday, ANC NEC member Mathole Motshekga said the day coincided with ANC president Jacob Zuma's 66th birthday.

"I congratulate Malema and hope he has learnt from Mokaba that leadership qualities derive from other leaders and not from books. I want to appeal to other leaders to accept the outcome of the elections," he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Malema said they were reporting back to Mokaba that the reactionary forces defeated in December at the ANC's national conference were further "outmuscled" in Mangaung.

"These are the children of Jacob Zuma. People will continue to question my election as they did with Zuma," he said.

"We will work towards strengthening unity rather than focus on tribalism. I am furthering our call for Cassel Mathale to take over the reins as ANC chairman in the province in June."
