Like a stuck record, the schoolmasterly Mboweni repeats his boring mantra about tightening belts.

Granted, his job is to fight inflation. Our all-knowing political masters say it should be under the magical six percent, come hell or high water. They call it fiscal prudence.

As usual, Cosatu and organisations of the poor call it strangulation.

We are all acutely aware of the devastation high inflation has wreaked on Zimbabwe - but how much longer will the poor accept the situation?
